We serve youth in foster care entering high school with life skills training and mentorship, and young adults aging out of care whose custodial rights and assistance has ceased.
Most youth have not developed strong enough life skills to enable them to live on their own, and kids coming out of foster care are usually even less prepared for independent living.
More than one-third of these youth and young adults never finish high school, and many don't have jobs. Their rates of arrest, welfare dependency, health problems, and pregnancy are far higher than those of the population as a whole.....as is their rate of homelessness.
Here, at A Bridge Forward they can cross an important bridge that gives them the chance to acquire the skills and knowledge they need to transition from being helpless to an independent adult.
